Senior Chemical Quality and Process Engineer
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Directs the chemical manufacturing facility’s quality control division
  • Oversees quality control of chemical processes and products
  • Drives progress towards process optimization by studying and analyzing performance data then developing and deploying engineering solution that increase capacity, reduce cost, improve safety and quality of global supply chain processes
  • Prepares detailed cost evaluations for production processes
  • Conducts research for purposes of developing and implementing new chemical manufacturing processes and equipment
  • Assures product and process quality by designing testing methods, testing finished-product and process capabilities, establishing standards, confirming manufacturing processes
  • Works hands-on with the company’s chemical products in researching the products and processes for development of state-of-the-art processing technologies, as well as new product lines
  • Works with the company’s chemical products, in their various forms, through pre-production, production, and post-production stages, to evaluate for different methods of processing to ensure efficiency, without comprising end chemical product quality
  • Provides guidance and support to operational management, manufacturing team through quality expertise leading and facilitates the optimization of new product industrialization
  • Assumes responsibility for quality improvements as they relate to the company’s chemical processes within its manufacturing facility, or for specific project or projects
  • Optimizes the company’s chemical production process to reduce cost and improve flexibility through the implementation of Best Practices
  • Manages the application of root cause analysis in problem-solving and acts as the lead troubleshooter in company’s manufacturing processes
  • Provides technical guidance to the manufacturing facility as it industrializes new technology or new processes
  • Creates and maintains company quality control manuals and procedures, in accordance with accepted practices in the chemical industry
  • Prepares product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends and conducting tests for monitoring of process performance through production
  • Participates in product quality planning (impact analysis, preliminary capability, training needs)
  • Applies hands-on technical troubleshooting skills to existing processes with quality problems
  • Identifies opportunities to improve chemical manufacturing process reliability
  • Utilizes chemical process improvement methodologies
  • Performs data and statistical analysis to make sound processing decisions
  • Maintains and controls calibration records for test and inspection equipment
  • Designs, installs and evaluates quality process-sampling systems, procedures, and statistical techniques
  • Designs, plans, and cost estimates manufacturing equipment acquisitions; and
  • Interfaces with all other engineering components within company and with clients and suppliers on quality related issues
  • Addresses product quality requirements for a diversity of industries and applications the company serves
  • Continuous analysis of processes and equipment for increasing efficiencies, while meeting the company’s exacting product standards and ensuring the protection of the environment and the safety of the company’s employees, neighbors, and clients
  • Oversees the company’s onsite testing laboratory

Other Considerations

  • Knowledge of equipment processes for evaluations of compliance with federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulations
  • Knowledge of the practical application of chemical engineering, such as its principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment, to design and improve company’s chemical production processes
  • Knowledge of the chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo, including chemical use and interactions
  • Knowledge of chemical manufacturing and process guidelines such as good laboratory practices, good manufacturing processes, and good clinical practices (collectively known as GXPs), as well as ISO (International Standards Organization) 9000
  • Strong analytical technique and instrumentation skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail, dependability, and excellent organizational skills
  • Investigative and analytical abilities for when a problem arises
  • Ability to manage, delegate, and direct company employees who report to the Senior Chemical Quality and Process Engineer
  • Good interpersonal skills, including tact and diplomacy
  • Ability to work independently and accurately to solve problems and improve processes.
